wow.yesterday.what a day.went for a nature hike to macritchie so that we could savour the latest-or should i say the maybe-i-thought-it-was-quite-new HSBC Treetop Trail. All comes to 1 word-i was CHEATed..
apparently, we thought all was present-23 people participating in this (erm) fun activity.man,i really love hiking.but the un-expectedness of landing us in some unknown nooks and cranies in Singapore was absurd.
We started out at the bus stop outside of macritchie.dunno what damned thing happened that dragged us for about 1 hour or so..so we left only at 9am.everyone was pretty pleased (yea.clarence, fred and wil was there at least) that the sky didnt turn bad for the whole morning.we trekked through the 5km route around the huge reservoir.it was ok i suppose, although still suffering from fatigue due to ytd's staying late at school.we finished the treetop trail-it was a 5 min walk from the start to end of the brige that took us 5 km to get there.well...i didnt expect that.but, anyway i though it was good exercise to break a sweat early saturday morning.
After taking a break we headed of to our starting point.unexpectedly again,we ended up at crossroads.there was one broad flat terrain of 8km and a 3km route of staircases which everyne was sick of climbing.of course i offered to travel thru en route de latter.walking..walking..we ended up in some detour that broght us to many wierd places:some defense technolgies aerospace company, pass by some Singtel satellite dishes, an army arms base at a flyover and finally ending us up at some forest route that was just beside a highway.our guide insisted to walk thru it,although Wil was like "cant we just walk by the road (there was a barrier-the cars couldnt get us lah)?".1st point of being cheated:the route was more than 8km.it was supposed to bring us to Kajar SC which was again supposedly at the end of the forest.we ended up walking alot of forest..
after taking a few hours manuvering around in the "obstacle courses" of the forest,we finally came to some part of S'pore that..i dunno where on earth we were.there were alot of cases of us being duped into believing that "at the end of this forest we will reach..."my answer? more forests.one stretch after another.evreytime we reach places with signs of civilisation, there we go again bashing thru more plants.the most depressing part was when after we finally made a long long walk thru many disappointments, we finally landed on road.
yes,tar-made roads!!!
we were sooooo thankful.
the guide told us that Kajar was just up ahead, shouting confidently to us that "Kajar SC is just right ahead! 500m!" by then, you should know,we were already like half-dead.my knees were aching and my feet were on fire.then the voice of 1/2km sounded so heavenly.we started brisk walking, and suddenly everyone's spirits were lifted.or we thought so.walking for 1/2hr and still not reaching Kajar?at our speed, we would have covered like 2km already!! damn.it couldnt be.cold, unfeeling reality sank in.we were cheated again!!the guide,i believe was shocked himself (oh yess he better be) that his "wonderful-trek-around-Singapore-with-a-big-bunch-of-idiots-making-it-seem-pre-planned" plan failed .fred was like" i didnt use vulgarities for a very, very long time.but i definitely overused them today."hahaha...i could feel the tension build up when the looks on everyone's faces seemed desperate.the last ordeal was to slave past a forest floor thick with vegetation(goodness.i nearly dropped my phone when dennis called) and a few girls freaked out.yupp.ann ann's niece nearly broke out in tears.then we climbed this reeaally steep cliff-a few of us clearly did not enjoy it-ven miao tan climbed it with us.i was deeply moved by her will.oh yea.for a moment i did forget that she was an FGS-trained venerable..*koutou*koutou*..we finally-how many finallys did i use-reached a HDB estate.then all of us knew in our hearts,we were reaching Kajar SC.we weren't tired anymore.me,fred, and wil were like thinking of what to eat at Kajar SC.thoughts of air-conditioned TM-liked place were awaiting us.we reached.a quite run-down white-washed stained-looking "un-TM-ish" place came into view.oh my.......
THIS CANT BE HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!
the guide.."here we are at Kajar SC" with all smiles."go and eat your lunch, shop shop,do whatever you like.our journey ends here today".Third time.we got cheated once more.
Going to FKY was the best; cindy and the rest were asking us how was it. "Good! It was an enriching experience.Just don't forget that Wilson will be taking the next trip-just join the Wilson's-TreeTop-Trail journey-except that we "won't" lie." We'll just bring you all the way to Macritchie, bring you to the same path that we walked, leave you in the middle of Nowhere, take a taxi and call you back when we reach Kajar SC.Oh,by the way its not far away. After you walk into the estate area, turn left when you reach the drainage canal, and tredge for another 4km more and you will see Kajar SC.
Isnt it exciting?
